Memories of school from Karen Downing
'my
first year of High School in the old classrooms on The Esplanade before the
school moved to Burraneer Bay; Sister Scholastica’s Piano Recitals & A. M.
E. B. exams; Mrs McInnes trying to teach me Latin (I could never get it!); the
picturesque grounds at Burraneer; getting into trouble for talking during a
Retreat in Form 2; going into Sydney for the Alliance Francais Exams (I enjoyed
those as French was my best subject); also, soap-making in Sr Sophia’s Chemistry
class!! Miss Patterson eating (& spitting) peanuts during Poetry classes!!'
I remember Mrs McInnes with her Scottish accent teaching us French; also being asked to come on a Saturday with several other girls who lived close-by to help cover library books, our reward was a glass of orange cordial and Nice biscuits, an being able to go for a swim in the pool.
